Shape Shifting Along the Path of Soul Journey

There are times, more frequently and consistently lately, thankfully, when My Self is in step with My Soul – my soul journey. My Self has taken a long and winding road, full of pot holes, steep slopes and obstacles on the path, shifting shape in subtle and dramatic ways, to find her way to My Soul. Continue reading

Art of Hosting – Universal or Not?

It is a matter of what you see is what you get and what you get is far more than what you see. Going away from any of these singular events thinking this is it, that you know what it is, that you know it, is an easy assumption to make – and it misses the point. Continue reading

Slowing Down to Go Fast

Our world moves so fast we all want it done now, or yesterday – whatever “it” is. The paradox is, we don’t have time to go fast anymore. But it’s not just about slowing down. It’s slowing down, adding in intentionality, purposefulness and patterns of movement – often non-linear and iterative – to take us to places we’ve never been before but that we’ve dreamed and know have to be possible. We want to get to this new place but we keep repeating the patterns that have never gotten us there before – Einstein’s definition of insanity. Continue reading

Explaining Art of Hosting for Beginner’s Wanting to Know What It Is

Every place we go has its own tone, texture and timing.  It is part of what makes Art of Hosting – or in the case of California in August 2012, the Art of Participatory Leadership and Social Innovation – so … Continue reading

Hosting Lessons from the Field – Presence and the Four Fold Practice

The Four Fold Practice is a core pattern and practice in Art of Hosting and it has been receiving renewed attention lately in our teaches and our conversations. Self hosting. Not just being nice to self by going to the spa or eating dark chocolate. Depth. Practice. Discipline. The discipline of practice. Meeting oneself, sometimes in places one would prefer not to meet oneself. Continue reading

Contemplating and Celebrating Turning 50!

I have come too far to go back. Have I come far enough to fully surrender and embrace all that is waiting for me here on the edge of 50? It seems that is part of what I will discover as I begin the Fool’s Journey anew. I begin with child like curiosity and playfulness and anticipation. I begin with joy brimming over the top. I look forward to seeing where and how your path intersects mine and I am eternally grateful for the path, people and circumstances that have brought me here to the edge of what’s next. 50, here I come. Are you ready for me? Continue reading

Shaping Questions for Powerful Check-in and Check-out Processes

Check-in and check-out processes are not just frivolous time wasters in our meetings.  If they feel that way, something is probably  missing. Wicked questions help shape powerful processes. The shaping of questions in a thoughtful, purposeful and intentional manner increases … Continue reading

I’ve Arrived – At Least in This Moment

I’ve arrived. I didn’t know this was where I was going but, now that I’m here, I can clearly see that this is where I was headed. Feels good to have arrived. In this moment anyway. In the next moment, it might be different. That will be okay too because there will always be a next moment. Continue reading

The Art of Stewarding

My awareness of stewarding has heightened over the last year or so as I have found myself in many stewarding conversations with good friends in the Art of Hosting, World Cafe and Circle Practice networks and as I have the privilege to co-host with other seasoned practitioners in a variety of situations where the ability to draw on accumulated wisdom and knowledge has been powerfully beneficial to other hosting team members including apprentices hungry to learn as well as the full group involved in the training.
